CHARLES DANNIS
Chuck has been a real estate appraiser and consultant since 1972. In 1976, he cofounded the Dallas-based firm Crosson Dannis, Inc. In 2015, the firm merged with Denver based National Valuation Consultants, Inc. to create one of the largest privately held appraisal and consulting companies in the U.S. where he serves as Senior Managing Director. The firm provides real estate appraisal and consultation services throughout the U.S. for many of the nation’s largest real estate lenders and owners. Chuck has qualified as an expert witness in real estate valuation in numerous states and jurisdictions throughout the U.S.
He holds a BBA from Southern Methodist University where he also undertook graduate studies in real estate/finance. He is a Member, Appraisal Institute (MAI, SRA).
Since 1988, Chuck has been an Adjunct Professor of Practice in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics in the Cox School of Business at SMU in both the undergraduate and graduate schools. In 2006, he received SMU’s first Eugene T. Byrne Endowed Faculty Innovation Award for his innovated classroom instruction and techniques. His students also nominated him as a HOPE Professor in 2008,2009 and 2021. In 2015, he was the first recipient of SMU’s Folsom Institute for Real Estate’s Distinguished Alumnus Award.
During 2003-2006 he served on the Mayor’s Real Estate Task Force for the City of Dallas and was Chairman of the City of Dallas’ Landmark Commission’s Economic Review Panel in 2002 and 2008.
In 2008, Chuck was honored by the Commandant of the Marine Corps with the U.S. Marine Corps Quality Citizen Award.
In 2016, he was awarded the Appraisal Institute Education Trust’s prestigious Dr. William N. Kinnard, Jr. Award for his contributions to the real estate appraisal profession and education. And in 2019, he was awarded the Michael F. McAuley Lifetime Achievement Award by the North Texas Commercial Association of Realtors for his community involvement and commitment to the real estate industry at large.
Chuck is past Chairman of the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciary’s (“NCREIF”) Valuation Committee and past Board Treasurer (1997-2001); in 2015, he was again elected to its Board and was Chairman of NCREIF for 2020-2022.
He also currently serves on the not-for-profit Boards of the Folsom Institute for Real Estate at SMU, the BMW Dallas Marathon benefiting the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and the June Shelton School, an internationally known pre-K thru 12 school for children that learn differently.
In November 2022, DCEO Magazine named Chuck as one of the 500 most powerful and influential business leaders in North Texas.
