The NCREIF Research Committee has worked diligently on an investigation into the Property Subtypes. This effort was intended to ensure that definitions which were over 30 years old were still relevant, and if not, to update those definitions. In doing so, they recognized that the changing scope of the institutional real estate landscape required enhancements to not only existing definitions, but in some cases, to the Subtype categories themselves.
The new and updated subtypes, along with the additional data fields that support them were approved by the NCREIF Board of Directors. Implementation will be coincident with a new data submission system.
